Pingu's Little Friend

Several years ago, i lived in a Town near the pacific ocean. I was roommates with an intelligent Teenage girl, and we were best friends for quite a while. Before you ask, no, we weren't married at all. We just loved to hang out and play video games. Occasionally, she would also give me some of the most delicious ice cream treats ever! Man, i would kill for a Sundae again. But it's currently raining as i type this and i don't want to get drenched. So that means i can't buy shit.

Yeah, we've had our fair share of arguments over petty things but for the most part, we were pretty cool with each other. Our relationship is now absolutely atrocious, she gets so annoyed with me for no reason. I don't know why, but i think it has to do with something i did a couple of months ago. It was a Friday afternoon and i just wanted to sit back and relax. I didn't really have any homework so that meant i could watch South Park all night. Though something was off, really off. Sarah was about 3 hours late and i hadn't been at the train station to pick her up. I received 33 phone calls from her that i completely ignored. Because arguing will ruin my Friday and also my weekend too. When she got home, she stood right in front of me with an apoplectic look on her face. She then gave me a long ass lecture about how trash of a human being i am. All while i was trying to watch my show.

Nowadays, she lives with someone else. Leaving me all by myself. I'm still struggling to tie my shoelaces and cooking is a boring process, especially if the food takes about 2 hours to cook. Most of the foods i make are really bland and terrible, so i started to buy fast food every single day. I'm not the healthiest guy, scratch that, i might be the unhealthiest guy in the world. I remember when i used to eat vegetables with almost every single meal, but now i can't even go near a piece of broccoli without gagging my lungs out. Fruit also makes me really nauseous and i can barely even manage a glass of water. The only thing i drink is Soda, which often leads to kidney stones every month. They were painful at first, but now i actually don't mind the feeling of them.

The reason why my roommate left me is because i accused her of ruining my childhood. Not only did she ruin it, she also smashed it into a million billion pieces at the same time. How did she ruin my childhood? well, i was cleaning out the gutter with her and she kept lecturing me about the night prior. Keep in mind, that this took place on a Saturday morning and i had to wake up at about 4:30 AM. So i was in a shitty mood for most of the day. Sarah was in an even shittier mode, she kept lecturing me about my behaviour the night prior. I was seriously thinking about beating the ever living crap out of her.

While i was cleaning my bedroom i found some really cool stuff. Like foreign DVDs, old Heavy metal CDs, and even the low budget horror movies i used to work on in high school. I can't believe i still have those stupid movies! One thing that really caught my interest was a Pingu DVD that Sarah gave me for my 24th birthday. I loved Pingu back in the day and i still do now! Although i rarely watch it anymore, it'll always have a place in my heart. The DVD was called

"Pingu's Adventures"

And it had 4 episodes. The episodes were: Pingu's Lavatory Story, Pingu the Babysitter, Pingu goes Fishing, and Pingu's Little Friend.

The fourth one took me by surprise. I have never heard of an episode with that title before! But i was still curious to see what it was about. Now, my roommate hated Pingu and whenever i watched it, she closed her eyes and covered her ears. Something about the animation really creeped her out for some reason, which would also explain why she was a constant bedwetter. My taste in music was completely different from hers, considering that i love heavy metal and she loves RnB.

I asked Sarah if i could watch the DVD. She took one look at the cover, then she cowered away in fear. I went into the bathroom, only to see her shaking on the floor for some odd reason. I also noticed that her body was slowly turning pale, i wanted to ask her something but my brain was telling me not to. When she was scared, she would usually just stutter for an hour and she would also struggle to say anything.

Back then, i was scared of barely anything. You could show me the K-fee commercial and i wouldn't even have a reaction. All that was about to change in a 7 hours.

I was just chillin', enjoying a good Saturday afternoon until i heard shrieking coming from the bathroom door. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, so i just let it slide and played it cool. But then i continued to hear the screaming as it got louder and louder. I rushed to the bathroom to see Sarah, still curled up on the floor but her body was now fully pale. I tried to ask her what happened but she didn't really say anything, she just kept stuttering and stuttering. I really wanted to call the police, but considering that they would just arrest me for domestic violence, i had no choice but to call the ambulance. Since the people who work for the ambulance in my town are actually smart and know what they're doing. The police just arrest innocent people for fun. God damn bastards.

I sat at the door, desperately waiting for good news about my roommate. 2 hours later, a police officer came at my door and told me some very shocking news. Sarah had almost died due to some violent hallucinations. I fell on the floor and started to sob really loudly, i cried so loudly that my neighbours could hear and they wanted to know what the commotion was about. He told them the news and that only made me feel even worse.

Sarah was admitted to the hospital. I was worrying about her all night long. Sure our relationship wasn't really at its best, but we still loved each other wholeheartedly. To cure my anxiety, i decided to watch the DVD all about a clay penguin and his misadventures.

3 of my absolute favourite episodes were on that DVD. But the fourth one almost ruined my life. The intro to the show was much different. If you're an avid pingu fan, then you'd know that the intro consists of pingu walking through the arctic. He would usually stop and the screen slowly zooms on him while the words "Pingu" fade in below. He would then look at the viewer and smile while nodding his head. The intro theme to the show is normally quite catchy.

The intro shown in this episode, however, was completely different.

Pingu was in the arctic as usual, but he was skipping and jumping in a very aggressive manner. The audio was also flat, which made me quite unnerved. When the screen zoomed in, there was absolutely no sign of the Pingu logo nor the blue circle. Pingu just looked at the viewer with a furious expression on his face. He then shook his head slowly before the episode began to play.

I was already feeling creeped out.

The episode started with Pingu going to school with Robbie on his side. Pingu was talking to robbie about..something. The characters speak some sort of gibberish, which is mostly made of sounds and is hard to understand. Pingu arrives at school and sits at the front of the class, next to his girlfriend Pingi. The other students just stare at pingu, menacingly. Pingu then asks Pingi a question, but this time strangely in english:

"Why are they all staring at me?"

"I don't know, they've been doing that to me too"

"It's strange Pingi, these boys are really weird"

"I know right?"

The teacher was talking about Maths, again in english. None of the students really understood him at all, which isn't really surprising. Because all the characters speak the same language.

Anyway, it suddenly cut to Pingu walking home late at night. The animation continued to loop for a good five minutes before returning to normal. Pingu's mum was at the door, looking extremely antagonised. She asked why Pingu arrived home at 9:00 PM, but this time in Penguinese.

Pingu didn't really say anything, however. And he headed straight to his room. He could see a black figure menacingly walking towards him, only to give him a handshake seconds later. He then opened the portal to what seemed to be an alternate universe, and Pingu quickly entered without hesitation.

He was having the time of his life! He was playing with the black figure and even sharing his food with him, The universe was full of rollercoasters, slides, and even movie theatres. Pingu was bouncing up and down on a slide before falling off in a cartoony manner. The black figure lifted him up and started to throw him up and down. So far, i was really enjoying this episode. It was colourful and very upbeat, not to mention that it was also putting me in a better mood.

All of that was about to change in a second.

The dream suddenly stopped, and it strangely cut to reality. Pingu woke up in a cemetery, he stood in front of a grave and started to sob. The animation started to decay rapidly, and Pingu's crying got angrier and angrier by the second. The screen zoomed into the grave and it said:

"R.I.P Pinga

1990-2013

May god be with this young girl's soul, and let her rest in piece"

It cut back to Pingu. He was still sobbing as loud and angry as he could. The screen zoomed slowly onto his face and the screen got all fuzzy for about 10 seconds. He then stared blankly at the grave, not crying anymore but he started to mutter something in gibberish. A giant hand then set the poor penguin ablaze. Pingu then started to melt into a pile of flesh and bone, all while the sound of a baby screaming could be heard in the background.

It then showed started to show graves of deceased children. All of which are infants. The names and death dates written on the graves were:

Alexander. 1 month old, died December 1987

Neveah, 2 months old, died January 1991

Blake, 1 year old, died March 4 1995

Mike, 1 day old, died the after day he was born.

The normal outro played. Then the screen faded out, only to fade into a video clip of a cat playing with a dead bird, The video was rather shaky, but i could still figure out what was happening. The cat mauled his teeth into the bird's skull, then tears its feathers apart like a madman.

The episode finally ended as it went back to the main menu.

"What the hell did i just watch?" I said to myself. I stared at the TV while collecting myself. I was dazed and scared, but mostly just dazed. The lights then turned on magically and the disc came out of the player. Although when i turned the TV off, i could still hear the sound of Pingu crying. So i turned it back on and the sound was gone. It left me! the sound finally left me!

I don't really remember what the episode looked like. I'm just telling you what i recall.

As of writing this, i am still a single man. My roommate now has a successful career as a musical artist.

I wish i could achieve those goals, i really do. But in all honesty, am i really gonna get a job as good as that?

Well, am i?
